Meeting Artists
Just for kicks: Over the weekend, I got to sit with a well established artist of the Northwest who showed me a few of her incredible pieces of work, acrylics on Canvas. She was very inspiring and talkative, great personality. She asked questions about our Museum and we decided to compare her tribes Museum and The Museum At Warm Springs.
She expressed that The Museum At Warm Springs should feature more art from Natives on a regional basis, rather then just local. She expressed that there weren’t many Native Artists out there serious about their work, yet we may be able to help lay a foundation for artists to express themselves if there were more avenues to showcase them.
So I began to think, I wonder how many artists feel the same way and I wonder how many Native artists that aren’t Tribal Members would come forward if given the opportunity to display.
I wonder how our advocates would feel about it and if the expansioin in seeking art would help The Museum.
I’m sure it would, yet The Museum has made it traditional that we push as much local art as we can, yet if there is an audience who would like to see a more expansive variety, I believe we would be open to it.
